Set up shipping carriers with Shippo

About shipping carriers 

By integrating your Square account with Shippo — a shipping carrier partner — you can Create and purchase shipping labels in Square Dashboard for shipment orders created in Square Online, Square Point of Sale and Square for Retail.

Before you begin

  • You can ship orders that come in from Square Point of Sale, Retail POS, Invoices and Subscriptions — any order with a fulfillment type of shipping.

  • The shipping label feature on the Square Online orders page has been removed for most sellers. Shipping labels can be purchased using the updated shipping label experience from the Shipments page in Square Dashboard.

  • Connecting a Shippo account with Square Dashboard will not make any changes to any existing shipping settings for Square Online or connections to the Shippo marketplace app.

  • Your Shippo features, services and account details are managed by Shippo directly. For additional help, visit the Shippo support site.

Integrate with Shippo

To connect a Shippo account and set up shipping label purchases:

Step 1: Sign up for Shippo

  1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Account & Settings > Fulfillment > Shipment.
  2. Under “Shipping labels,” click Get started > Connect account. If you already started connecting your account, click Continue setup > Connect account.
  3. Create a new Shippo account, then click Sign Up. Click Log in if you already have a Shippo account. If you set up a new Shippo account, check your email to complete your account activation.
  4. Enter your billing card details, then click Allow access.
  5. Click Next once your Shippo account successfully connects. If the connection fails, you can review the error message and click Connect account to try again.

Step 2: Carriers and service levels

  1. Select a default carrier and service level.
  2. Enter the requested carrier account information. Depending on the carrier you select, you may be taken to their website to complete account connection. For more information on specific carrier rates, see the Carrier Rates section below.
  3. Choose the default service level. Service level options are determined by the default carrier selected. When purchasing a label, the service level is shown in your top three options.
  4. Once you have connected all the relevant carriers, click Next to finish connecting your account.

Step 3: Create custom shipping boxes

  1. Add your own box sizes to more accurately estimate shipping costs when printing shipping labels. Adding a default box will also allow you to set a default that is always selected when you purchase a label.

Step 4: Review setup

  1. Review the summary of your shipping label purchase setup.
  2. Click Done or Go to Shipment Settings to return to the Shipment Settings page. You can also click Go to Shipments to begin purchasing labels.

Choose carrier rates

When connecting to carriers, you have two options: Square rates or pre-negotiated rates with your own account. If you use a Square account, the Square carrier rates will appear and you may need to review and agree to the terms and conditions. You can only enable one type of account per carrier.

Square Rates

UPS

You can connect UPS as your carrier using your personal carrier rates. If you enable UPS with your own account, you will no longer be able to access UPS with Square-negotiated rates. If you were previously using UPS with Square-negotiated rates, you will now find those rates automatically enabled in Shipments on your Square Dashboard. At this time, you can only use Square rates through Dashboard Shipment Manager if you had previously connected to UPS using Square rates.

To connect to UPS using your personal carrier rates:

  1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Account & Settings > Fulfilment > Shipment.
  2. Click Shipment carriers to view more details.
  3. Under Add Carrier, click UPS (Add your account).
  4. Enter all of your UPS account information, including your UPS username and account number.
  5. Click Connect account.

UPS carrier rates will now appear when purchasing a shipping label. Please visit your carrier account’s website for more information on how to access your account information.

FedEx

You can connect FedEx as your carrier only using your personal carrier rates at this time.

To connect to FedEx using your personal carrier rates:

  1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Account & Settings > Fulfilment > Shipment.
  2. Click Shipment carriers to view more details.
  3. Under Add Carrier, click FedEx (Add your account).
  4. Enter all of your FedEx account information, including your FedEx username and account number.
  5. Click Connect account.

FedEx carrier rates will now appear when purchasing a shipping label. Visit your carrier account’s website for more information on how to access your account information.

DHL Express

To connect to DHL Express using your personal carrier rates:

  1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Account & Settings > Fulfilment > Shipment.
  2. Click Shipment couriers to view more details.
  3. Under Add carrier, click DHL Express (Add your account).
  4. Enter all of your DHL account information, including the DHL Express account number and Site ID.
  5. Click Connect account.

Pre-negotiated rates

You can connect to DHL Express, FedEx and UPS with pre-negotiated rates. These rates are already enabled and available to you.

  1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Settings > Account & Settings > Fulfillment > Shipment.

  2. Click Shipment carriers to view more details.

  3. Under the listed carriers, select your preferred carrier with pre-negotiated rates.

  4. Select the preferred service level.

  5. Click Done.

Manage your fulfillment locations

Ship From addresses are where your shipments originate from. You can use them to calculate shipping costs so the carrier knows how far the package will travel. You can validate your addresses to ensure the carrier will recognize it as a valid address.

To review and validate addresses from your fulfillment locations:

  1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Settings > Account & Settings > Fulfilment > Shipment.

  2. Click Manage addresses to view a list of addresses associated with your fulfillment locations.

  3. Click Validate. Previously validated addresses will have a check mark (✔) next to them, but you can click a row to edit the Ship From address.

  4. Enter or update Ship From address details and click Save.

  5. Review the address and click Use suggested, if applicable.

  6. Click Done.

Ship From addresses are pre-filled with your business location address. To manage your business locations, go to Settings > Account & Settings > Business information > Locations in your Square Dashboard.

Disconnect your Shippo account

If you disconnect your Shippo account, you will not be able to create or purchase shipping labels. To disconnect your account:

  1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Settings > Account & Settings > Fulfilment > Shipment.

  2. Click Shippo login > Remove account. You’ll be redirected to the Shipments page in your Square Dashboard.

  3. Click Get started > Connect account to reconnect the same account or to connect a different Shippo account.

If you disconnect a Shippo account and attempt to connect a different account, you’ll need to clear any cookies for Squareup.com. Otherwise, Shippo will automatically log in with the previously connected account.
