Get Started with Square Card
Square Card is a free business expense card that is connected to your Square balance. Take a payment, and the money you earn is reflected in your balance. You can spend that money with your Square Card anywhere internationally where Mastercard® cards are accepted (including in person, online and at ATMs).
It’s free to order and personalize your Square Card, and it’s free to use your card to make purchases.
Order Your Square Card
You can order your Square Card directly from your Square app or from your online Square Dashboard.
From the Square App
Update your Square app to the latest version.
From your Square app, go to the new Balance tab > Square Card.
Tap Create My Free Square Card.
Verify that your name and business name match the account owner’s name on Square. For security reasons, Square Cards will only be issued to the account owners.
Personalize your card.
Verify your shipping address.
Create your 4-digit PIN.
Your new Square Card will arrive in 7–10 days.
From Your Online Square Dashboard
Navigate to the Balance tab of your online Square Dashboard.
Select Square Card > Get Your Square Card.
Verify that your name and business name match the account owner’s name on Square. For security reasons, Square Cards will only be issued to the account owners.
Personalize your card.
Verify your shipping address.
Your new Square Card will arrive in 7–10 days.
Activate Your Square Card
Once your Square Card arrives, you can activate it directly from your Square app or online Square Dashboard.
To activate your Square Card from your Square app:
From your Square app, go to Balance > Square Card.
Tap Activate physical card and enter the confirmation code sent to the email address associated with your Square account.
Once your account has been verified, connect your reader and swipe your Square Card, or enter your card details manually.
To activate your Square Card from your online Square Dashboard:
From your online Square Dashboard navigate to Balance.
Click on Square Card > Activate physical card.
Enter the confirmation code sent to the email address associated with your Square account.
Once your account has been verified, enter your Square Card CVV and expiration date.
Create your 4-digit PIN > Done.
To activate your Square Card with a QR code:
Open the mailed envelope containing your Square Card and scan the QR code with the camera on your mobile device.
Select the link that appears and follow the steps to provide your card details.
You’ll receive a unique activation code on your device. Enter the activation code in the pop-up notification on your screen.
Once you complete these steps, your physical Square Card will be instantly activated. From there, you can also add your Square Card to your digital wallet.
Use Your Square Card for Online Purchases
When making purchases online with your Square Card, you may be asked to confirm your transaction in your Square Dashboard or the Square app before it can be completed. This extra authentication step helps safeguard against fraud and keep your money secure.
If you receive a notification asking to confirm your Square Card purchase, you can approve or deny the transaction by following these steps:
From your online Square Dashboard
Go to Balance > Locations and select the location attached to your Square Card.
Locate the online transaction that will show as pending.
Click to approve or decline the transaction in question.
Confirm your identity by entering your device PIN.
Return to the merchant checkout and complete your transaction.
From the Square App
Navigate to Balance in your Square app.
Locate the online transaction that will show as pending.
Click to approve or decline the transaction in question.
Confirm your identity via face ID, touch ID or by entering your device PIN.

Square Card Spending Limits
The maximum you can spend using a Square Card is $10,000 per transaction, $25,000 per day, $50,000 per week and $150,000 per month.
Note: Daily limits reset at 5:01 p.m. PST (12:01 a.m. UTC), weekly limits are reset on Sunday at 5:01 p.m. PST (12:01 a.m. UTC) and monthly limits reset at 5:01 p.m. (12:01 a.m. UTC) on the last day of each month.
If you’re using your Square Card to withdraw cash, the maximum amount which can be withdrawn at an ATM is $500 per transaction, $1,000 per day, $2,000 per month.
When withdrawing funds from an ATM, the ATM will probably state your balance is $0.00. This is incorrect. You can check your available funds from the balance section of your Square app.
Please note: Square does not charge you any ATM fees, but ATM providers may charge you a fee when you make withdrawals.
