Set up item defaults

  • About item defaults

    To create items more quickly, you can manage certain item settings so that new items always have a few attributes automatically enabled, especially for items you sell online. This includes default item type, online channels and site visibility.

    You can set up the following options as your item defaults:

    • Item type: Choose the item type all new items should be. This is especially helpful when you only sell one kind of item (such as only Physical good items or Event items).

    • Online channels: Choose the sites and other online channels to which all new items should be assigned. This is especially helpful when you have multiple sites, or sell on multiple channels such as Google or Facebook.

    • Site visibility: Choose the site visibility option all new items should have out of Available, Hidden and Unavailable.

    Before you begin

    Set up item defaults

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Items & services (or Items & menus or Items & inventory) > Items > Settings > Item defaults.

    2. Click Edit by the setting you want to manage.

    3. Click Save.

    Set up default item fulfilment

    You can also set up default item fulfilment in Square Online when you create new items in your item library. This feature will move to Item defaults at a later time.

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Online.

    2. Click Settings (or Shared Settings) > Item Preferences.

    3. Under ‘Default item fulfilment’, click Edit.

    4. Choose your preferred fulfilment methods for newly-created items.

    5. Click Save.
