Set up email and outage notifications

  • About email and outage notifications

    Square notifies account owners and full access team members of important account activity. You can set your notification preferences to receive:

    • Account emails, like daily or monthly sales summaries

    • Product or feature emails, for notifications about low inventory or Square Loans payments

    • Transactional emails for payments, refunds, or transfers

    Square also sends outage notifications through email or SMS when services are deprecated or down. You’ll only get outage notifications for the products you use. For outage notifications, you can provide any email addresses or phone numbers.

    Before you begin

    You can adjust your notification settings from your Square Dashboard.

    Make sure your Square emails are on your safe list so your internet service provider or mobile phone carrier do not block them. Add these Square domains to your safe list:

    • @squareup.com

    • @messaging.squareup.com

    • @communications.squareup.com

    Push notifications are automatically sent to your mobile device; while email notifications are sent to your email account. Notifications are sent to the email address of full access team members by default. Transactional notifications can’t be sent to multiple email addresses, and notification emails are not sent for cash transactions. While you can’t choose to have transactional notifications (like payment and transfer alerts) sent to an alternate email address, you can set up a forwarding rule from your email provider’s settings.

    Manage email notifications

    1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Account & Settings > Notifications > Account.

    2. Choose the types of email notifications you want to receive and click Save.

    Manage outage notifications

    1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Account & Settings > Notifications > Outages.

    2. Select Add email address or Add phone number

    3. Enter the contact information where you want to receive outage notifications and select Add.

    4. To remove a contact method, select Remove.

    Manage invoices notifications

    You can receive push notifications for invoices and estimates when a customer has viewed an invoice/estimate and paid the invoice/accepted an estimate. You can receive email notifications when the invoice is sent, updated, paid, canceled, or when an invoice reminder has been sent to the customer. 

    To configure your invoice notification settings:

    1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Account & Settings > Notifications > Invoices.

    2. Toggle on Invoices and/or Estimates

    3. Check the relevant push and email notifications and select Save.

    Manage staff notifications

    To manage emails and dashboard notifications you receive related to scheduling activity:

    1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Account & Settings > Notifications > Staff.

    2. Check the relevant email and dashboard notifications and select Save.
