Accept Local Cash rewards with Neighborhoods
About redeeming Local Cash rewards
With Neighborhoods on Cash App, your customers can use their Local Cash balance to pay for purchases at your business. When customers with Cash App tap Redeem and scan the QR code on your buyer-facing display, their Local Cash applies automatically — no additional steps required.
Local Cash can be used to pay for some or all of your customer's transaction. Customers can then pay any remaining balance with another payment method, earn more Local Cash on eligible purchases, and view their complete transaction history in Cash App.
Before you begin
Your customers can redeem Local Cash rewards from the Square Point of Sale app, Square for Restaurants app, and Square Register.
How redemption works
Step by step
Ring up the customer's order as usual
The buyer-facing display shows an order summary with a Redeem button
The customer taps Redeem and scans the QR code with Cash App
Their Local Cash applies automatically to the order
If Local Cash doesn't cover the full amount, collect the remaining balance with another payment method (card, cash, etc.)
Complete the transaction
Details about your customer experience
Full balance applied: Customers must apply 100% of their available Local Cash balance — they cannot choose a partial amount. If their balance exceeds the order total, the remaining Local Cash stays in their account for future use.
Split payments: Only one account can redeem Local Cash per transaction. Any remaining balance after Local Cash is applied can be collected with another payment method.

⚠️ Tipping when Local Cash covers full amount: When Local Cash covers the full order amount, the POS does not prompt for a tip. We recommend letting your staff know so they can set expectations with customers.
If a customer wants to leave a tip, they can skip redeeming Local Cash and pay with another method that allows tipping.
We're working on providing tipping functionality on these orders and will update this article when changes are available.
