Who is this article for?

  • Square Kiosk subscribers.
  • About Square Kiosk menus

Square Kiosk displays your menu to buyers on both the device touchscreen and through voice ordering. Buyers can browse items, ask questions about the menu using voice, and place orders directly from the kiosk.

To get the most out of Square Kiosk, your menu needs to be set up in Square Dashboard and enabled for the device. This includes creating menus, organizing items into groups, configuring modifiers, and assigning menus to your kiosk location.

If you’re looking for information about the iPad-based self-service kiosk, this has been renamed to Square Stand with the Square Kiosk Lite app. Learn how to configurar Square Kiosk Lite.

    Before you begin

    • Confirm your kiosk is assigned to a location. Learn how to crear y administrar más de una sucursal.

    • Use clear, pronounceable item names to avoid issues with voice ordering. Avoid abbreviations or internal codes in customer-facing menu names.

    • Each device is tied to a location, so Square Kiosk displays menus assigned to that location. If you have multiple kiosks at one location, they share the same menu configuration.

    • It’s recommended to position your Square Kiosk away from speakers, kitchen noise, or high-traffic conversation areas when possible.

    • Add descriptions to menu items so the device can answer customer questions like "What's in the house salad?"

    • Square Kiosk uses menus, not item categories, to organize and display items. If you currently use categories, you need to create menus to use with your kiosk. Learn how to crear y actualizar menús.

    • Menu changes made in Square Dashboard sync to your Square Kiosk automatically.

    • Items must have a name and price to display on Square Kiosk. Descriptions, images, and nutritional details are optional but recommended.

    Square Kiosk subscription requirements

Purchase and use of the new Square Kiosk requires an active Square Plus or Premium subscription. Subscribers on other plans will be able to continue to use their existing Square Stand models with their existing plan. While Square Kiosk is not currently available with legacy pricing plans, such as Restaurants POS Plus or Premium, please reach out to your Account Manager for help with Square Kiosk order and setup.

    Set up Square Kiosk menus

Once you have your Square Kiosk set up and configured, you're ready to create your menus:

Once your menus are set up, follow the additional steps outlined below to configure and customize your Square Kiosk menus.

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Items & services (or Items & menus or Items & inventory) > Menús.

    2. Click the three dots next to the  the menu you want to enable for Square Kiosk.

    3. Seelct Edit menu details.

    4. Within Channels select Edit > Kiosk.

    5. Ensure the location of the menu also matches where you intend to use your Square Kiosk.

    6. Click Save.

    7. Within the menu, verify that the items are also available for the Kiosk channel.

Optimize your menu for voice ordering

Square Kiosk supports voice ordering, where buyers can speak naturally to browse the menu and place orders. Square Kiosk’s voice ordering and AI knowledge comes from the information you enter in their item library for item names, descriptions, and any nutritional or dietary details. The more detail provided in your menu setup, the better Square Kiosk AI can answer buyer questions. To get the best results:

    • Use clear, descriptive item names. Buyers may say the item name out loud. Names like "The Classic Burger" work better than internal codes or abbreviations.

    • Add allergens and dietary information. If you add allergen or dietary labels to your item information, like gluten-free, vegan, or nut-free, the kiosk can respond to buyer questions like "Show me gluten-free options." You can add this information to each item in your item library in Square Dashboard. Without this info, the kiosk refers the customer to check with staff.

    • Use common modifier names with clear, specific language in item description. Buyers may say "large," "oat milk," or "extra spicy." Modifier names that match natural speech work best with voice ordering. Learn how to crear y editar variantes de artículos.

    • Review item descriptions periodically to keep them accurate, especially when recipes change.

    • Square Kiosk can’t answer questions about cross-contamination, kitchen practices, or allergen info not entered in the system. In these instances, it will always direct the buyer to check with staff.
