[BETA] New Checkout Experience

Thank you for participating in the New Checkout Experience beta program. This new product will allow you to accept and manage Venmo, Cash App, and card payments all from a single app.

Access to this new experience will only be available for a limited time to a small group of participants. Our goal is to learn from you and businesses alike on what is or isn’t working with this new checkout experience so we can improve it for the future. We’re excited to hear your thoughts!

Get Started

Before testing, make sure you’re using the most up to date version of Square Point of Sale app (version 6.46 or later).

The new checkout experience introduces a simplified way to accept card and peer-to-peer app payments (Venmo, Cash App). See the below image for what to expect when opening the Square Point of Sale app on the correct app version (v. 6.46).

FAQs

What payment methods are available with this New Checkout Experience?

You can accept card (via Tap to Pay or connected hardware), Cash App, Venmo, cash, check, or send a payment link. This new experience does not include Invoices or Square Gift Card payments.

Are there any processing fees for accepting Venmo payments?

No. We do not charge any processing fees for Venmo payments.
Note: If you have a Venmo for Business account, there is a 1.9%+10c fee per transaction charged by Venmo, but Square will not charge anything additional.

Why don’t my Venmo funds appear in my Balance applet?

Your available Square Checking balance includes Square card sales, Cash App Pay sales, Square Debit Card spending, transfers, deposits, and other credits or debits. Recorded payments like Venmo or cash are not included. You can transfer your money from Venmo to Square, in order to make those funds available in your Square Balance.

How do I transfer my Venmo funds into my Square Balance?

While Venmo payments aren’t stored within your Square Balance, you can transfer funds from Venmo to Square to help with consolidating your finances. In the Venmo app, you can add a new bank to transfer funds and all that’s needed is your Square Balance account and routing numbers. You can find your Square Balance account and routing numbers in the Square POS app > More > Balance > scroll down to account and routing numbers.

How do I refund a Venmo payment?

Since Venmo payments are not deposited into your Square balance, any Venmo refunds will need to take place through your Venmo app. For record keeping, you can issue a refund in the Square Point of Sale app by selecting Transactions > select transaction in question > Issue refund.

How long will this feature be available?

The new checkout experience will be available for testing until early August 2024 (subject to change). Once testing has ended, we’ll inform you via email and disable the feature on your account. At that time, the checkout experience on your account will be reverted to what is generally available to Square sellers.
