Create promotions with Square for Franchises
About promotions
With promotions for Square for Franchises, you can offer rewards to customers with their purchases. By creating promotions, you can incentivize customers to return to your business. You can create a promotion to apply a discount or a promo code that customers can use at checkout to get a discount.
Promotions allow you to choose between a dollar amount or percentage based discount on the products you’d like to promote. You can also select the store you would like to apply this to, the availability duration, as well as detailed rules for the promotional discount to avoid misuse.
Square for Franchises offers three types of discounts for promotions:
Check based: When a customer spends a specified amount, a discount of a specified dollar amount or percentage will apply to the total.
Item based: When a customer purchases a specified item, a discount of a specified dollar amount or percentage will apply to the total.
Buy one, get one (BOGO): When a customer buys a specified quantity of an item or category, a discount will apply towards additions of the same item or towards different item(s) added to the cart. If you’d like to set up a buy one, get one free discount, just make sure to set the discount percentage to 100%.
Before you begin
You can create promotions through your Square for Franchises dashboard.
As a franchisor you can create either check-based or item-based promotions that are orchestrated to your franchisees Square accounts.
Orchestrated promotions propagate a discount in each franchisee’s Square account in the amount of the promotion you are setting in Square for Franchises that can also be used for in-store sales.
The current parameters pushed to each franchisee’s Square account include:

Connected items or categories
Only selected locations have the promotion or discount orchestrated to their Square account.
Only locations part of menu orchestration can participate in item-based or BOGO promotions. BOGO promotions are not pushed into Square and are only available for your Square for Franchises online ordering page.
Create a promotion
Sign in to your Square for Franchises dashboard, then go to Promotions.
Select Add Promotion.
Toggle on Active to enable the promotion.
Enter a Title, Subtitle, and Message for the promotion.
Select whether it is a promotion or a promo code, and participating stores.
Add an image.
Select the discount type: Check based, Item based, or BOGO.
Optionally, select Show advanced settings to further customize the promotion. Enter the Availability, select Specific users, and set any Rules.
Select Save.
