Appeal a deactivation of your Square account

Square sellers whose accounts have been deactivated that are eligible to submit a self-service appeal.

About account deactivation appeals

If your Square account has been deactivated, you may be eligible to appeal the decision. Eligible sellers can submit an appeal directly through your Square Dashboard, the Square Point of Sale app or from a link in your deactivation email.

If you’re eligible for an appeal, you’ll receive a link to the appeals form in your deactivation email from Square. When you submit an appeal, Square reviews your information and makes a decision. You’ll receive an email with the outcome.

Before you begin

  • You must have received a deactivation notice from Square indicating eligibility to appeal the account deactivation.

  • You need access to the email address associated with your Square account (to receive the appeal link and decision notification).

  • Have information about your business ready – the appeal form may ask about your products, services and business practices.

Submit an account deactivation appeal

  1. Check your email for the deactivation notice from Square. The email includes a link to start your appeal.

  2. Sign in to your Square Dashboard or open the Square Point of Sale app.

  3. Click the link in the notification banner, your deactivation email or the in-app notification.

  4. Complete the appeal form – provide accurate information about your business, including:

    • A description of your products or services

    • Any relevant documentation that supports your appeal

    • An explanation of how you’ve addressed the concern identified in your deactivation notice (if applicable)

  5. Review your submission and select Submit Appeal.

After submitting, you’ll receive a confirmation email. Appeals are typically reviewed within 48 hours.

Review the appeal decision

You’ll be notified once one of the following decisions has been made regarding your Square account:

  • Appeal approved: You’ll receive an email confirming your account has been reactivated. Any funds held will be released. You can resume processing payments immediately.

  • Appeal denied: You’ll receive an email explaining the decision and impact to any funds held. The deactivation remains in effect.

  • More information needed: You may receive a follow-up email requesting additional documentation. Respond promptly to avoid delays in the review process.
