Accept Payments on the Online Square Dashboard
You can accept payments online on a desktop device by signing in to your online Square Dashboard, and selecting either Virtual Terminal or Invoices. Learn more details below.
Accept Payments with Virtual Terminal

Enter the payment details
When taking a payment with Virtual Terminal, enter the amount to be charged and your customer’s card information. To have a reference for the payment, you should enter the customer’s name, email address and phone number in the Notes section. Next, enter your customer’s email or phone number if they would like a record of the transaction – a digital payment confirmation will be sent automatically.
When you’re ready, swipe or click Charge.
You can also Split Tender with Virtual Terminal to accept multiple tender types such as payment or gift cards, or you can record other payment types like cash.
Complete the sale
Your funds will be transferred into your bank account as fast as the next working day, or in seconds with instant transfer. Review Square’s transfer options.
You can keep track of all your transactions by going to Sales > Transactions in your online Square Dashboard.
Square’s standard processing fee for Virtual Terminal payments 2.5% per transaction.
Accept Payments with Invoices

Create your Invoice
When taking a payment with Square Invouces, start by selecting a customer from your Customer Directory, or enter a new name and email address. Under Delivery Method, select whether you’d like to email your customer this invoice or manually share the invoice link. If your customer has a card on file, you’ll have the option as a payment method.
Send your Invoice
Before sending your invoice, select Preview in the top right-hand corner to view your invoice as your customer will see it. You can also click Save as draft to save the current version to work on later, or to keep it as a template to duplicate and send anytime. Learn more about sending invoices.
When the information is complete, click Send. Your customer receives an emailed invoice that looks like this, and you get a copy in your inbox.
Track Invoice payments
Once your invoice is sent, you can track whether it has been paid from your online Square Dashboard.
