Square’s Payment Processing Fees

With the Square Point of Sale app, you’ll pay the following per-transaction fees:

  • 1.75% for each tapped, inserted or swiped card-present transaction
  • 2.5% for each card not present transaction

Fees are only applied when card payments are processed.

Square’s Fees by Payment Type

Here are the payment types you can accept with Square and the associated fees:

Recorded Cash, Cheques and Other Tender Free

*The higher fee for manually entered transactions is due to a greater risk involved with these payments, as neither the payment card nor the buyer have to be present for the payment to occur.

No Hidden Fees

No hidden fees! There are no fees for:

  • Activation
  • Early termination
  • Interchange
  • Chargebacks
  • Cash payments
  • Refunds
  • Inactivity
  • PCI compliance
  1. Card fees are included in Square’s fees, so you will not incur any charges from card companies.
  2. Square charges merchants the same processing fee for all cards.
  3. Payment processing fees are taken out of the total amount of each transaction, including VAT on the sale and tip.
  4. Square’s fees apply to all business types, including non-profit organisations.

Note: Square’s fees are shown exclusive of any VAT. Square reserves the right to charge VAT should there be a change in legislation or in the approach of the relevant tax authorities.

View Your Fees

View your current processing rates at any time from your online Square Dashboard.

Note: If you have more than one location, you must first select a location to view its rates.

View Fees Paid Per Deposit

From the Square Point of Sale app:

  1. Tap the three horizontal lines > tap Reports.
  2. Tap Deposits > select a deposit.
  3. Fees for the sales included in that deposit are listed under Fees.

From your online Square Dashboard:

  1. Log in to Deposits in your online Square Dashboard.
  2. Select a date range from the date selector tool in the upper-left corner.
  3. Select a deposit from the list for an overview of the total fees paid.
  4. To view fees associated with each transaction in your selected deposit date range, click Export directly under the date range button.

View Fees for a Period of Time

From the Square Point of Sale app:

  1. Tap the three horizontal lines > tap Reports.
  2. Tap Sales > tap the settings icon in the upper-right corner.
  3. Tap Custom and select a date range > tap Apply.

From your online Square Dashboard:

  1. From the Sales section of your online Square Dashboard, click Reports.
  2. Click Sales Summary > select a date range from the date selector tool in the upper-left corner..
  3. Fees paid for this period of time will be displayed in the Fees row of the report.

View Fees for a Single Payment

  1. From the Sales section of your online Square Dashboard, click Transactions.
  2. Select a date range from the date selector tool in the upper-left corner.
  3. Select a transaction. The fee paid for the transaction will be listed below the transaction details.

Visit Fee Invoices to view and download a monthly summary of fees paid.
