Upload and Link to Files

If you have files or documents you’d like to share on your site, you can upload and create links to these files to allow visitors to view or download them.

You can link to a file using any one of the following options:

  • Text link

  • Image link

  • Action button link

  • Navigation menu link

The process is largely the same no matter which type of link you create, but there are some small differences.

To link to a file using text:

  1. In the editor, select the text you want to add the link to. Read more about working with text here.

  2. In the settings panel on the left, click the chain link icon to open the linking options.

  3. Select File from the dropdown menu, then click inside the upload file area below. Locate your file on your computer and double click to upload it.

  4. You’ll see the filename on the linking options when the upload is complete. Click save to finish.

To remove a file link from text:

  2. In the panel on the left, click the Menu items button.

  3. Click Add menu item at the bottom of the list of menu items.

  4. Select File from the dropdown menu, enter a name for the menu item, then click inside the upload file area below. Locate your file on your computer and double click to upload it.

To edit or remove a file link from your navigation menu:

  1. Open the navigation menu list as described in steps one and two above.

  2. Find the file link in the list and click the “. . .” icon to the right of the name.

  3. Choose to edit or remove the menu item. The remove option will immediately delete the link from the navigation menu. The edit option will allow you to change the name of the link or remove the currently linked file to select a different one.

Note: Keep in mind that not all file types can be opened or viewed in a browser window. If the visitor’s browser can’t display a file, it will attempt to download the file instead. Some types of files will always download instead of opening in the browser (e.g., zip archives), whereas others will always open in the browser (e.g., PDF documents).
