  • About vanity code coupons

With Square Marketing, you can easily create coupon codes (promo codes) for both in-person and online sales. Use them to promote specific items, item categories or special holiday sales.

Unlike regular coupon codes that usually have random letters and numbers, you can create vanity codes that are easy to remember, and match the theme of a promotion or sale (like code ‘BigHolidayPromo’). Once created, share the code through an email campaign, in store or on your website.

    Before you begin

    • You can create vanity code coupons – a free feature – from Square Dashboard.

    • For best results, coupon codes should be unique and not reused. This can help prevent code misuse, enable precise code tracking and allow for more personalised offers.

    • Customers can only use one online coupon code at a time while checking out from your website or payment link.

    • Codes aren’t case-sensitive, which means the coupon codes of ‘SAVE10’ and ‘save10’ will both apply the same discount.

    • Marketing coupons that are redeemed online won’t appear in reporting until the corresponding order is marked Complete.

Coupons can apply to both in-person and online sales, but some only apply to one or the other. For example, percentage off coupons only apply in store, while limiting coupons to sales over a certain amount only applies to sales made on your website. For details, be sure to review all information icons as you create your coupon.

    Create vanity code coupons

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Customers > Marketing > Coupons.

    2. Click Create Coupon to complete details such as coupon code, coupon type, when it applies and expiry.

    3. Click Activate.

    Cancel and duplicate coupons

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Customers > Marketing > Coupons.

    2. Under an active coupon code, click ••• > Cancel coupon. The coupon status will change from Active to Expired.

    3. Under an expired coupon code, click ••• > Duplicate.

When you choose to duplicate an expired coupon, you’ll be creating a brand new coupon with the same information as the expired one. You can edit any of the coupon details as needed.
