Accept Afterpay with Square Invoices

With Square Invoices, you can send invoices and estimates and allow customers to pay in installments with Afterpay Pay in 4 or Pay Monthly. Offering Afterpay as a buy now, pay later payment option can help boost your sales and attract valuable customers.

Afterpay Pay In 4

Customers can spread payments of up to $2,000 over four interest-free installments over six weeks. You can accept Afterpay online and in-person via your Square Invoices app or online Square Dashboard.

Afterpay Pay Monthly

Qualified Afterpay customers will be offered an additional Afterpay repayment option during checkout, allowing them to pay for invoices between $400 to $4,000 in monthly installments over 6 or 12 months. Interest is capped and is determined on an individual customer and merchant basis.

Note: Monthly payments work through existing Afterpay integrations and require no additional integration lift, contracts or costs.

Add Afterpay to your invoices

From your Invoice Settings tab, you can easily add and edit payment methods on your invoices, including your default invoices template. If you add a payment method to your default template, it will appear automatically on future invoices you create, saving you time.

Add Afterpay as a payment option to a new invoice

  1. Go to Payments > Invoices > Invoices > Create invoice.
  2. Scroll down to Payment options > select Payment method.
  3. Check the box next to Afterpay.
  4. Fill in the rest of the necessary fields to complete your invoice.
  5. Click Save as Draft or Send depending on whether you want to send an invoice now or later.

Add Afterpay as a payment option to your Default Square Invoice

  1. Go to Payments > Invoices > Settings > Invoices.
  2. Select DEFAULT Square invoice.
  3. Click Edit in the lower right corner of the page.
  4. Scroll down to Payment options > Payment method.
  5. Check the box next to Afterpay.
  6. Click Save template.

Note: If you do not see Afterpay listed as a payment method in the Payment options section of your invoice, you may have to go to Payment Methods via your online Square Dashboard to enable Afterpay and/or confirm your Afterpay In-Person eligibility.

What are the benefits of using Afterpay Pay Monthly?

Accepting payments of up to $4,000 provides further flexibility for your customers and helps you to increase your average transaction size and volume via Square Invoices.

How are the interest rates calculated when my customers select Afterpay Pay Monthly?

Interest rates are calculated on a per-transaction basis and will be personalized for each customer. There are no late fees or compound interest charged.

Can my customer pay for recurring invoices via Afterpay?

Afterpay does not support recurring invoices or partial payments at this time.

Can I opt out of Afterpay Pay Monthly?

If you no longer wish to have monthly payments enabled on your account, you can opt out by getting in touch with our Afterpay Merchant team. Please enter Opt Out of Monthly Payments in the ‘subject line’ of the email that populates and include your first and last name, the email address associated with your account, and the name of your business in the email body. If you have it readily available, you may also include your Afterpay Merchant ID number in the email body to help expedite the process.
