Manage Square Online from Square Point of Sale

Square Point of Sale is our powerful point of sale solution that can be customised to your business. With Square Point of Sale, you get full access to add-ons you need to operate: from item management to sales reports, email marketing, teams and online checkout, our add-ons are designed for your specific business needs. Find out how to get started with add-ons

For a seamless experience, you can start building your Square Online website and access your existing sites directly from the Square Point of Sale app using the Online add-on.

Add the Online Add-on

To download and add the Online add-on to your Square Point of Sale:

  1. Tap ≡ More in the navigation bar of the Square Point of Sale app.

  2. Tap Add-ons > Online.

  3. Select Add to Point of Sale.

Access Square Online from the Point of Sale App

When you finish adding the Online add-on to your Point of Sale, tap Open Online directly from the add-on screen. You can also access the app from your Add-ons menu:

  1. Tap ≡ More in the navigation bar of the Square Point of Sale app.

  2. Tap Add-ons > Online.

If you don’t have an existing Square Online account, a website will be automatically generated to help you get started. When you see your website, tap Edit site to start editing, tap View live site to preview your site or tap Switch site to start editing another site.

Set Up Your Square Online Items

Edit website

Tap Edit site to start editing your website. If you have multiple websites, select the site you want to edit. Learn how to navigate the Square Online site editor.

Accept online orders

To set up online ordering:

  1. Toggle on Online ordering to start accepting online orders. If you need to set up any other features, you’ll be able to complete these steps here.
  2. Your item library will sync by default. Manage menu items by tapping Add menu items.

Note: If you have an existing website, you can use these options to change the site settings. You’ll be asked to complete setting up your website.

Update fulfilment settings for online orders

You can manage pickup and delivery directly from the Square Point of Sale:

  1. Go to the Square Point of Sale app and tap ≡ More from the navigation bar.
  2. Tap Settings > Online.
  3. Select Update pickup & delivery to set up or update your fulfilment settings.

Toggle on Pickup or Delivery, and tap Done when you’ve finished editing. If you’re setting up fulfilment for the first time, you’ll be asked to provide additional information and customise the fulfilment option.

Order Timing

To customise your order timing settings:

  1. From the navigation bar, tap Orders. If you don’t see Orders, tap More and select Orders.
  2. Tap the clock icon on the Order Manager screen to view your Order Timing settings.
  3. Toggle on Busy Mode to temporarily add time to a location’s prep time.
  4. Select the duration of Busy Mode: 15 minutes, 30 minutes or one hour. While Busy Mode is on, 15 minutes will be added to your current location’s prep time. Once enabled, you can see the remaining time in Busy Mode on your Orders page. Here, you can also select Exit Busy Mode to resume your regular prep times or select Extend to extend the duration of Busy Mode.
  5. Under ‘Prep time’, select the amount of time you need to prepare an order. This will let your buyers know when an order will be ready.
  6. Under ‘Pause Orders’, tap Pause next to the fulfilment method you want to pause orders for your location. You can choose to pause pickup only, delivery only or pause all orders for both fulfilment methods.
  7. Tap Save when finished.

Note: You can see the status of your online orders on the Online add-on home page and select the order status to resume online orders.

Manage Your Square Online Items

You can create items and edit item visibility and item setting from the Online add-on.

Create items

To create catalogue items and import them to your Square Online website:

  1. From your Square Point of Sale, go to ≡ More > Items.
  2. Tap All items.
  3. Tap Create item.
  4. Tap Save when finished.

Edit item visibility

To edit your Square Online item visibility:

  1. From your Square Point of Sale, go to ≡ More > Items.
  2. Tap All items.
  3. Tap the item you want to edit and scroll down to the Online section.
  4. Tap Site visibility and select either Visible, Hidden or Unavailable.
  5. Tap Save when finished.

The available item visibility settings are as follows:

  • Visible: Your item is visible online and available for purchase, and will show up in navigation and site search results.
  • Hidden: Your item is available for purchase online but only visible to those who have the direct link to it (useful for exclusive items).
  • Unavailable: Your item isn’t visible online and can’t be purchased (useful if you aren’t ready to sell the item).

Edit item settings

To edit your Square Online item settings:

  1. From your Square Point of Sale, go to ≡ More > Items.
  2. Tap All items.
  3. Tap the item you want to edit and scroll down to the Online section.
  4. Tap Site settings to customise additional settings for your Square Online items, including:

  • Fulfilment methods: Enable shipping, pickup, local delivery and self-serve ordering for your item.
  • Pickup & delivery prep time: For items that have pickup and local delivery selected as the fulfilment method, you choose your item’s prep time for pickup and local delivery orders.
  • Site categories: Select the categories where the item will be available on your website.

Remove the Online Add-on

To remove the Online add-on:

  1. Tap ≡ More in the navigation bar of the Square Point of Sale app.

  2. Tap Add-ons > Online.

  3. Tap ... > Remove.

  4. Tap Remove again to confirm you want to remove the add-on.

Note: If the add-on you want to remove is connected to a paid subscription, you’ll need to unsubscribe through your online Square Dashboard before removing the add-on. Once the subscription ends, you can remove the add-on from your Square Point of Sale app.


Where can I manage items for my Square Online site in my Square app?

By adding the Square Online add-on to your Point of Sale, you’ll have access to Square Online website controls in your item library:

  • When creating a new item, you can set the item visibility for your Square Online site from the app.
  • When editing an existing item, you can access additional site settings, customise the item fulfilment methods and set up item categories from the app.

How does the mobile version of the Square Online site editor differ from the desktop version?

Besides the site editor being optimised for a smaller screen, the mobile version has the same features and functions as the desktop version.

I don’t have the Square Point of Sale app. How can I download it?

Go to the app store from either your Apple or Android device to download the Square Point of Sale app.
