Print Orders in the Kitchen with Square for Restaurants
Before You Begin
Using an impact kitchen printer allows you to send order tickets right to your bar or kitchen without worrying about heat from the kitchen destroying your receipts.
Review your kitchen printer compatibility with Square for Restaurants hardware. You can visit Square Shop to purchase a compatible printer.
Make sure your kitchen ticket printer is set up correctly by reviewing the article Connect accessories to your restaurant point of sale.

Turn on order ticket printing
Once your kitchen ticket printer is connected, turn on order ticket printing from the Square Dashboard:
Go to Settings > Devices.
Select an existing Restaurants point of sale device or click Add a Point of Sale to add a new device.
Under Order Tickets, choose between Automatically assign ticket numbers when the order is sent or Enter a custom number or name before sending the order.
Note: Predefined tickets and table names will not be impacted on kitchen tickets. Editing this behaviour will also override how existing printer profiles at this location behave.
Check printer connection to point of sale
If the Square for Restaurants app is not sending orders to printers, navigate on the point of sale to Settings > Hardware to monitor the connectivity status of your devices.
Before you begin troubleshooting, ensure that your printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network. Visit Settings in your iPad (outside of the Square for Restaurants app), tap Wi-Fi and ensure that your device is connected to the correct network.
Note: For best performance, ensure that your internet speed is at least 25 mbps.
Check your printer profile
When you create a printer profile, the printer name displayed is automatically determined by each point of sale device. If you have multiple points of sale connected to a single printer, each device may generate a different name.
For example, let’s say you want to send Appetisers from two points of sale to a single kitchen printer. When you connect both devices to the printer, the first device may identify the kitchen printer as Printer 1, and the second device may identify it as Printer 2, depending on how many active printers you have. To make sure both devices send Appetisers to the same printer, you’ll need to perform a print test.
To start a print test:
Open the Square Restaurants POS app > tap Account > Setup Hardware. If you are using Square Register, tap More > Settings.
Tap Create a Printer Profile.
Select a printer and tap Print Test.
