Recover your Google Workspace Admin Account for Square Online

If you ever forget the password for your Google Workspace admin account, there’s a recovery process you can use through Google. You can learn more about signing in to the Google Workspace Admin Console in Google’s support centre, but we’ll provide you basic steps you can take with Square Online. Be sure to start from the beginning.

Start the Verification Process

Click the link below to get started with the first step of verification:

Use an Email Address You Have Access To

Enter a valid email address that you have access to. Google will send the password reset instructions to this email address so don’t enter your Google Workspace email here, but another email address that you can receive emails at. Google will be using this email address to contact you and help you resolve the issue. Double-check that you’ve typed everything correctly before continuing.

Record Your Unique Code

You should see a page with a long string of text in bold. Copy and save that bolded text, as you’ll need it in the next step. This is for adding a special type of record to your domain’s DNS which Google will use to verify that you’re the domain owner. Learn more about how to manage records for Square Online domains.

Add a CNAME Record to Your Domain

To set up this record with your domain hosted at Square, leave the Google verification page open in your browser and log in to Square to access Square Online in a separate window. Then proceed below:

  1. From your Square Online Overview page, go to Website > Domains.

  2. Under the domain related to your email address, select Manage > Manage domain.

  3. Under DNS Records, select Add DNS record.

  4. Under Type, choose CNAME.

  5. Under Host, paste that string of text you copied from the Google verification page (e.g. ‘googlebf5cfc7dc164a729’).

  6. Under ‘Points to’, enter ‘google.com’.

  7. Select Save when finished.

Note: If your domain is hosted with a third party and you’re unsure of how to set up a CNAME record, be sure to request assistance from your domain host.

Confirm that the Steps are Complete

Go back to the Google verification page and click the button showing you’ve completed the step above.

Wait for the Confirmation Email from Google

Google will send you an email to the address you entered in the first step with further instructions. It can take 24-48 hours for Google to send the email, but once you receive it, you’ll be able to access your Google Workspace admin account.
