Request payment for goods or services with Square Invoices. You can send an unlimited number of invoices, all with a flat 2.5% processing fee applied at the time the invoice is paid with a debit or credit card. Be sure to follow our best practices guide for sending invoices.

Note: If you have multiple locations, invoices can be sent from each location-specific mobile device.

Create Invoices from the Square App

  1. Select items from your item library or enter a custom amount using the keypad within the Square app. If you add a custom amount, include a note about the items or sale.
  2. Tap Charge > Invoice.
  3. Fill out the invoice.
  4. Tap Send Invoice.

You can send an invoice to up to 10 recipients. Customers can pay Square Invoices using any supported payment card. Paid invoices will appear within your in-app Transactions and your online Square Dashboard under Transactions.

Accept payments for Invoices from the Point of Sale App

If you are using an Android device, you can complete your customer Invoices right from your Square App.

  1. Select Invoices from the navigation menu.
  2. Click on the invoice from your list or learn how to create an Invoice on your mobile device.
  3. Tap Take Payment.
  4. Swipe, Insert or Tap your customer’s card or select a separate tender type (Cash, Gift Card, Cheque or Other.)
  5. You’ll see a final screen that reads Invoice Paid after the payment completes.
  6. Your customer will automatically receive payment confirmation to the email entered for their Invoice.

Note: Invoice tipping is available and is configurable based on what platform (Android or iOS) you are using.

  • Android: If Tipping is enabled within the Point of Sale settings then customers will be able to tip for all Invoices and payments processed through the app.
  • iOS: Tipping will only be available if enabled when the Invoice is created. Point of Sale Tipping settings do not affect Invoices.

Note: Invoice payments do not support paper signatures and all card signatures will be on the device screen, regardless of whether the device setting Customer Signs on Device is disabled.

Manage Square Invoices

Edit, Resend or Cancel Invoices from the Square App

  1. Select Invoices from the navigation menu.
  2. Choose on the invoice from your list that you would like to edit.
  3. Click on the Edit button in the top right corner.
  4. Make the updates necessary and Resend the invoice (top right-hand corner) or click Cancel Invoice at the bottom of the screen. All recipients cc’d on the original invoice will be notified of the updates. Note that if you cancel an invoice, you will be prompted with an option to notify your customer of the cancellation via email.

Send a Reminder for an Invoice from the Square App

  1. Select Invoices from the navigation menu.
  2. Choose on the invoice from your list that you would like to send a reminder for.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the invoice details and click the Send Reminder button.

Duplicate an Invoice from the Square App

  1. Select Invoices from the navigation menu.
  2. Choose on the invoice from your list that you would like to duplicate.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the invoice details and click the Duplicate button.
  4. A new invoice page with the previous details will appear. Change the appropriate sections as necessary and click the Send button in the top right-hand corner.
