About creating your Square account in the Falkland Islands

We have partnered with the Financial Secretary of the Falkland Islands to make it easier for local businesses to accept card payments in GBP using Square.

This guide will walk you through each step to get your Square account set up and ready to take payments in the Falkland Islands.

Before you begin

• The sign-up process in the Falkland Islands is slightly different from the standard UK setup. It is important to follow these instructions carefully to ensure a smooth experience.

• If you have any questions throughout the process, don’t hesitate to get support at Square.

Step 1: Prepare your bank account

To receive deposits from Square, you will need a UK-based bank account with an account number and sort code.

• Already have a UK bank account? Move on to Step 2.

• Need one? Gibraltar International Bank offers UK bank accounts designed for Falkland Islands businesses. You can learn more at www.gibintbank.gi.

Step 2: Check your device compatibility

Make sure your phone or tablet is connected to the internet and is compatible with the Square Reader. You can verify your device compatibility using Square’s Device Compatibility page.

Step 3: Register your Square account

1. Go to www.squareup.com/signup/fk.

2. Select Falkland Islands from the country dropdown.

3. Complete the initial registration page and click Continue.

Step 4: Complete your account activation

Once you have created your account by entering your email and password:

1. Email us at square-uk@help-messaging.squareup.com.

2. We will send you a custom form tailored for Falkland Islands businesses.

3. After submitting the form, ignore the green Activate banner when logging in – your account activation will be completed manually by our team.

Step 5: Get your Square hardware

You will need a Square Reader to begin taking payments.

You can collect a free Square Reader from the Falkland Islands Chamber of Commerce. There, you will also receive:

• A Dock for your Reader

• Your Square Card Marketing Kit

Step 6: Download the Square App

Download the Square Point of Sale app on your smartphone or tablet:

1. Visit the Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).

2. Search for “Square Point of Sale”.

3. Install the app and sign in with your Square account credentials.
