Add Square Card to Your Digital Wallet

With Square Card, you have real-time access to your balance and the ability to spend your funds instantly. You can use your virtual Square Card to access your funds before you receive your physical card.

Access your Virtual Card

Once you order a Square Card, and before it arrives in the post, you can get access to your funds by using the virtual Square Card. The virtual card can also be added to Google Pay.

You can view the full PAN (card number), expiration and CVC of your virtual card which allows you to use it for online purchases and manually enter payments while you wait for your physical card.

From your online Square Dashboard:

  1. Navigate to the Balance tab of your Square Dashboard.

  2. Click Square Card > Card Management.

  3. Select the three horizontal dots > select Show card details.

  4. The card information will now be displayed on the virtual card on the screen.

To hide the virtual card information from your online Square Dashboard, click the navigation menu and click Hide card details.

From the Square App:

  1. Navigate to the Balance tab > Square Card.

  2. The card information will be displayed on the virtual card on the screen.

To hide the virtual card information from your Square app, you can do so by toggling on Hide card details.

What is a digital wallet?

Digital wallets store your card information securely on your device (smartphone or smartwatch). When you add your Square Card to your digital wallet (Google Pay in Android), you can make purchases without your physical plastic card, by tapping your phone at contactless-enabled terminals for in-person payments, or in app and online on your device.

Note: Tablets are not supported. Digital wallets are only available on smartphones.

Add your Square Card to Google Pay

From the Square App or Square Dashboard:

  1. Navigate to the Balance tab > Square Card.

  2. Select Add to Google Pay.

Note: You can manually add your Square Card to your mobile wallet through the Wallet app. Tap the “+” button, enter your Square Card details, and complete the verification steps.

Use Your Digital Wallet

You will be able to use your digital wallet to make payments using your Square Card.

  • In-Store: you can hold your phone up to an in-store terminal instead of swiping your Square Card, and your digital wallet will automatically launch. You will then be able to complete the payment using Google Pay.

  • Online: when shopping online, some sites let you select your digital wallet as your payment option instead of entering your card information.

  • In App: you are able to use your digital wallet for in-app purchases and pay conveniently while on the go.

Note: if your Square Card is not your default digital card, then you will need to select it from the list before confirming the transaction.

Frequently Asked Questions

Review answers to frequently asked questions about adding Square Card to a digital wallet.

Can I add my Square Card by entering the 16-digit number directly into my digital wallet?

No. You’ll need to add your Square Card to your digital wallet from the Square app.

I’ve tried to use my digital wallet, but Square Card doesn’t come up. How do I get it to be the default card to appear?

If you’ve added other cards to your digital wallet before you added Square Card, you’ll need to hold and drag it to the top of the cards to make it your default card. In case you don’t want it to be your default card, select the Square Card image from the list when paying.

What is the spending limit for the virtual card?

If you use your virtual card prior to activating your physical card, the spending limit on the virtual card is £5,000 per day.

What is the billing address associated with my digital wallet card?

Google will use the billing address on file with your device. If that doesn’t work, it will try to use your billing address for the physical Square Card which you can see in the Square app under Billing Address. Otherwise, you will be prompted to enter your address when paying with Google Pay.

What is a device account number?

When Google enables a physical card for digital wallet usage, they replace the physical card’s primary account number (or PAN, the 16-digit number on the card) with a series of randomly generated numbers, also known as the token. These tokens are used to process the payment without bank account details being shared. Read more about payment tokenisation.

I added my card to Google Pay. Why does it still say Add to Google Pay?
