How to Accept Payments on Mobile

With Square Reader

Get set up

Before you get started, make sure you’ve downloaded the Square Point of Sale app on your phone or tablet. Having trouble? Learn more.

Open the Square Point of Sale app and sign in. Connect your Square Reader via Bluetooth.

Set the amount

Navigate to Checkout and enter the amount to be charged from the Keypad or select specific items from your Library. If you haven’t yet, learn more about building your item library.

Complete the sale

Tap Review Sale > Charge or use the chosen payment method. On the confirmation page, your customer can enter their PIN, add a tip and choose to receive an email or text message receipt.

Without Square Reader

Get set up

Before you get started, make sure you’ve downloaded the Square Point of Sale app on your phone or tablet. Having trouble? Learn how.

Open the Square Point of Sale app and sign in.

Set the amount

Enter the amount to be charged or select specific items from your item library.

Enter the card information

  1. Confirm the total amount and tap Review Sale > Charge.

  2. Select Manual Credit Card Entry.

  3. Enter the card information and tap Charge.

Complete the sale

On the confirmation page, your customer can choose to receive an email or text message receipt.

Note: When you key in a card number, the fee is 2.5% per transaction instead of the standard 1.75% per contactless or Chip + PIN.

Invoice

Set the invoice amount

Before you get started, make sure you’ve downloaded the Square Point of Sale app on your phone or tablet. Having trouble? Learn how.

Open the Square Point of Sale app. Enter the amount you want to invoice or select items from the item library. Learn more about building your item library. Tap Review Sale > Charge.

Create your invoice

Select Invoice from the list of payment options. Complete the requested information, including the email address of the invoice recipient, and add a custom message in the message field (optional).

Send your invoice

Once the information is complete, tap Send. Your customer receives an emailed invoice that looks like this, and you get a copy in your inbox.

To schedule an invoice or create a series of recurring invoices, sign in to your Square Dashboard and go to the Invoices tab.

Track invoice payment

Once your invoice is sent, you can track whether it has been paid from your Dashboard.
