Get started with early feature access
About early feature access
With early feature access, you can discover and try new Square features before they’re rolled out to everyone. Each available feature is displayed as a card with a name, description and details so you can understand what’s changing before you turn it on.
Early feature access gives you control over when and where new features go live. You can install a feature across your entire account, at specific locations or on individual devices – so you can train your staff and test workflows before a full roll-out. You can also install a feature on a single device first to test it before enabling it everywhere.
If a feature isn’t working for your business, you can uninstall it during the early-access period. At the end of the early-access period, features are automatically enabled for all eligible sellers. You’ll be notified in advance so there are no surprises.
Note: Early feature access replaces Release Manager, which was previously available to Square for Restaurants subscribers. If you used Release Manager, you’ll now find your early-access features at Settings > Early feature access in your Square Dashboard.
Before you begin
Early feature access is managed from your Square Dashboard only. It is not available on mobile devices. You manage features from your Dashboard, and changes take effect on your point-of-sale devices.
You must be an account owner or admin to install or uninstall features.
After you install or uninstall a feature, you may need to reset your point-of-sale device or app to see the changes. Follow the on-screen instructions in the confirmation message
Browse available features
To view features available for early access:
Sign in to your Square Dashboard and go to Settings > Early feature access.
Review the list of available feature cards. Each card includes a feature name and short description.
Select View details on any card to view additional information and media that explain the feature.
Understand feature availability
The features you see in early feature access depend on your account type, plan and devices. Keep the following in mind:
No features listed. If no feature cards are displayed, there are no early-access features available for your account at this time. Features appear based on your account type, plan, devices and eligibility.
Platform-specific features. Some features are only available on a specific platform (for example, iOS only). This will be noted in the feature details. Sellers with devices on other platforms will not see that feature listed.
Multiple business types or modes. You’ll only see features that are relevant to your account and the modes or apps you use. For example, if a feature is specific to Square for Restaurants, sellers only using Square Point of Sale will not see it. If you use multiple modes, the feature details will explain which modes are supported.
Install a feature
To install an early-access feature:

Uninstalling a feature is only available during the early-access period. After the early-access period ends, the feature is automatically enabled for all eligible sellers and devices. You’ll receive advance notice before this happens.
