Sync your item grid across locations

Who is this article for?
  • Sellers using Square Point of Sale on iOS in Standard Mode with multiple active locations.
  • Sellers with general items permissions or account owners. Set permissions in the Square Dashboard.
  • About syncing your item grid

If you have multiple locations, you can sync your item grid from one location to others. This copies your entire grid layout – including items, categories, discounts and page arrangements – to the target locations you select.

    Keep in mind:

    • Syncing is a one-time action, not a continuous connection. Changes you make to the source grid after syncing won’t automatically appear at the target locations.

    • Syncing replaces the target location’s existing item grid entirely. This action can’t be undone. Customisations on top of the synced grid can be made manually through the normal item grid configuration experience.

    • Only the grid layout is synced. Items, categories and discounts must already exist in your item library for the target locations.

    Before you begin

    • You need the Square Point of Sale app on an iOS device.

    • Your account must be in Standard mode.

    • You need at least two active locations. Learn how to create and manage multiple locations.

    • You need general items permissions or must be the account owner.

Sync your item grid to other locations

    1. Open the Square Point of Sale app and navigate to Settings > Checkout Settings > Sync Item Grid.

    2. Select the target locations where you want to apply your item grid.

    3. Click Sync grids.

    4. Review the summary and click Confirm to sync.

Your item grid layout will be copied to the selected locations. This may take a moment depending on the number of locations.

What to do if the sync fails

If you see an error message after attempting to sync:

    1. Check your internet connection and try again.

    2. Make sure the target locations are active and not archived.

    3. Confirm you have items permissions for all selected locations.
