Square Launches Online Directory for Buyers and Sellers
First search engine that allows people to shop by location and specific items
SAN FRANCISCO – October 3, 2012 – Square, the company making commerce easy for everyone, today launched Square directory, the first web-based search engine that enables buyers to discover new places to shop, search menus by item, and find nearby loyalty deals and specials. Over 200,000 businesses have already listed themselves in the Square directory, making it easier than ever for sellers to showcase their offerings and for buyers to find new businesses in their area where they can pay with Square Wallet.
“Square directory gives people the power to instantly find whatever they are craving, from a BLT to a bicycle,” said Square’s Director of Directory, Ajit Varma. “Everyday the directory grows with diverse businesses and allows them to display item-level information to new customers.”
Square, known for enabling anyone to accept credit cards with its free mobile card reader, is building smart tools to help businesses. Earlier this year, Square introduced customizable rewards programs that enable businesses like Melt Market in Bridgeport, CT, to create first-visit specials for new customers, and reward loyal patrons with digital punch card discounts. Gigantic Brewing in Portland, OR, and Drip Coffee Shop in Atlanta, GA, amongst others, list their items in the Square directory for online customers and those using Square Wallet.
Square Wallet enables people to explore nearby businesses, browse menu information, and earn rewards, all on their phone. Customers can store their favorite places and digital punch cards in their digital wallet.
Over 2 million individuals and businesses can now accept credit and debit payments using Square. Square is processing over $8 billion in payments on an annualized basis.
