Now it’s even easier for brick and mortar businesses to adopt Square’s iPad point of sale system

SAN FRANCISCO – November 4, 2013 – Square, the company making commerce easy for everyone, today announced that Staples — the world’s largest office products company and second largest internet retailer — will sell Square Stand, Square’s hardware that helps brick and mortar businesses turn an iPad into a complete point of sale. Customers can purchase Square Stand online at Staples.com or in more than 1,000 Staples stores across the U.S.

Traditionally, merchants have been forced to make major point of sale hardware investments without the ability to test out products in advance. Now, business owners will be able to process test payments with Square Stand and Square Register, Square’s free point-of-sale software, at many Staples locations. Businesses that purchase a Square Stand from Staples in November will receive a free $200 Staples gift card.

“Business owners trust Staples when it comes to finding great products that help them run and grow their business,” said Square Hardware Lead Jesse Dorogusker. “With Square Stand in Staples, we are making it even easier for merchants to replace their old point-of-sale systems with fast, beautiful, and easy-to-use hardware from Square.

Square Stand has enabled larger brick and mortar businesses to adopt Square as their primary point of sale system. Nearly 70% of businesses who have purchased a Square Stand are either entirely new to Square or did not previously use Square on a regular basis.

Neighborhood retail locations are an important resource for small business owners to discover new opportunities and technologies that can help them grow. Square Readers are sold in more than 30,000 stores nationwide including at Apple, Best Buy, Staples, and Starbucks, as well as in more than 10,000 stores in Canada and Japan. Square recently announced it would sell readers in 9,000 Lawsons in Japan and at London Drugs locations throughout Canada.
