SoCo will celebrate this honored day by giving out free ice
cream cones at our Great Barrington scoop shop on Friday from noon to 5.
Ice cream has brought joy to young and old for centuries, but
ice cream cones did not become popular until 1904 when they were
introduced at the World's Fair in St. Louis by Ernest A. Hamwi, a
Syrian concessionaire.
When the ice cream vender next to him ran out of dishes Hamwi
rolled his zalabis (a waffle-like pastry) in to a cone shape and let the vender
use them as dishes instead. And Americans fell in love with them. The rest, is history.
Please join us in celebrating the 114th year of enjoying
ice cream cones!
