To sign up for Square’s payroll services in Alaska, you must provide a valid Alaska Employer Account Number and your Employer Unemployment Insurance (UI) Contribution rate.

Add Your Alaska Employer Account Number to Square Payroll

You must have an Alaska Employer Account Number to sign up for Square Payroll. This information is required for us to make state tax payments and filings on your behalf.

Don’t Have an Employer Account Number?

The fastest way to get an Employer Account Number is to register online with the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development. You will receive your eight-digit (XXXXXXXX) Employer Account Number and your Employer UI Contribution rate once you complete registration.

You can also contact the Department of Labor and Workforce Development by calling 888-448-3527.

Can’t Locate Your Employer Account Number?

To locate your Employer Account Number:

  • If you’ve filed state payroll tax returns in the past, you can find your Employer Account Number on any previously submitted Quarterly Contribution Report. Your Employer Account Number is an eight-digit number in the following format: XXXXXXXX. If your number is 5 or 6 digits long, add leading zeros (0s) to the front of the number.

  • Call the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development at 888-448-3527.

If you need to update your Employer Account Number in Square Payroll, you can do so from the Tax Info tab in your online Square Dashboard.

Add Your Alaska Employer Unemployment Insurance Contribution Rate to Square Payroll

You must provide your Employer UI Contribution rate when signing up for Square Payroll so we can accurately withhold this tax.

Note: Square Payroll only requires that you enter in the rate for the employer portion for this tax; do not add the employee portion.

To locate your Employer UI Contribution rate:

  • If you are a new employer, you can locate this rate on the Contribution Rate Notice you’ll receive after completing the onlineregistration. If you have indicated to Square Payroll that you are a new employer, the new employer rate will be pre-populated for you.

  • If you are an existing employer, you can locate your rate on the Contribution Rate Notice mailed by the Alaska Department of Labor each quarter.

  • Call the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development at 888-448-3527.

You are responsible for ensuring Square Payroll has the correct Employer UI Contribution rate for your business. If you need to update your rate, you can do so from the Tax Info tab in your online Square Dashboard.
