Security Best Practices with Cash

  • It’s a good idea to enable the Security Lock setting to require your passcode to authorize every Cash payment.
  • If you sign in to the Cash App app on a device other than your personal device, make sure to sign out
  • Only reply to emails from people and organizations that you know and trust. Note: Cash emails will always come from ”@square.com”. If any email includes links to websites other than square.com or squareup.com, it wasn’t sent by Square.
  • Consider creating a passcode for your mobile device. To do so, check your device’s general settings. Because all devices vary, you may need to check your device manual for more information.
  • If your email provider supports two-factor authentication, we recommend using it.

Cash App Payment Verification

You can elect to receive a text message or email after every successful Cash payment. To do so, adjust your settings in the Cash app.

Confirmation Code

Every time you attempt to log in to your Cash App account, you’re sent a one-time-use confirmation code. If you received an unsolicited confirmation code, here are a few simple steps you can take to protect yourself:

  • Set up two-step verification on the email address associated with your Cash App account and update your email password. This will secure your email account.

If you haven’t done so already, you can enable a security code requirement for each Cash payment you send:

  1. Open the Cash App app and tap the account icon at the top-left corner.
  2. Toggle Security Lock on.
  3. Enter a four-digit Security Code.

Declining Requests and Blocking

If you’d like to decline a Cash request or block a Cash user from sending requests through Cash App, you can do so right from your app:

  1. Open the Cash app and tap the clock icon in the upper-right.
  2. Tap on the request or person you’d like to modify > tap the three horizontal dots in the upper-right.
  3. Select Decline Request or select Block Person.

FDIC

Cash App does not currently offer FDIC insurance but our team is actively working towards a solution.
