Events FAQ

Which types of payments can be processed with Square hardware rentals?

With Square hardware and the Square Point of Sale app, you can process every type of payment, including debit tap, debit chip & PIN, credit cards and contactless devices. Learn more about Square payments.

Do I need Wi-Fi at my venue to use Square?

Square requires an active internet connection to process payments. For mobile devices, this can be either a Wi-Fi connection or a data service such as 3G, 4G, 5G or EDGE. If you are unable to connect to a network at your event, you can enable Offline Mode to accept payments.

How can my team members use Offline Mode at the event or venue?

For your team members to enable or disable Offline Mode, they will need to have the Configure Checkout Settings box checked in their Permissions setting. Team members without this permission granted can still process payments in Offline Mode, but will be unable to enable or disable Offline Mode.

What are the risks of using Offline Mode at my event or venue?

When operating in Offline Mode, there is additional risk with any payments you accept. Square is not responsible for any loss due to declined cards or expired payments taken while offline or for chargebacks. In addition, Square can not contact any customers on your behalf should a payment decline or expire when taken in Offline Mode. You will also be unable to add customers or cards on file to your offline sales.

Can I test out Square hardware before I buy it?

Yes! Just fill out the request form with our hardware rental partner IT Xchange Rentals and someone will contact you to discuss it.

Do you offer onsite support for event payment processing?

For select large-scale events, Square has partnered with Mawg. If this is something you’re interested in, please email Mawg at makers@mawgdesign.com
