Square Point of Sale is available for free in most countries listed in the Apple App Store and Google Play.
Where Can I Accept Card Payments with Square?
Card payment acceptance with the Square app is currently available in the US, Canada, Japan, Australia and the United Kingdom. We currently don’t support payment card processing outside these countries or in U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa and Northern Mariana Islands. We’re working to bring payments processing to more markets and will share updates on squareup.com/news.
Where Can I Use My Square Hardware?
Square’s hardware is subject to testing and certification for compliance with country-specific regulations, such as for FCC compliance in the United States, or Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) compliance in the EU. Therefore, Square’s hardware is only approved for use in the country for which it is intended. For example, hardware sold or intended for sale in the United States is not approved for use in Australia, Canada, Japan, or the United Kingdom.
Can I Process Payments While Travelling Abroad?
Cross-border card payments are unsupported. This means that card transactions attempted outside of the country where you activated your Square account can’t be processed with Square. However, you can accept cash transactions while traveling internationally.
Note: If you’re in the country where you activated your Square account, you can process international cards.
You can create multiple Square accounts, each with its own country selection, but a different email address and different identity verification information is required for each account. For example, if you already have a Canadian Square account, but would like to sell in the U.S., you’ll need the identity verification required to create a U.S. account – a valid U.S. Social Security Number and a U.S. mailing address.
