How Can I Enable SSL?

Find answers to common questions about using Secure Socket Layer (simply known as SSL) with Square Online.

What is Secure Socket Layer (SSL)?

SSL encrypts the data that goes from a user's computer to your website and back, making the data exchange secure. This is especially important for online stores, where users will expect their information to be secure while transacting with you.

How can I enable SSL for my website?

SSL certification is enabled by default for you the first time you publish your website, so there’s nothing extra you need to do. Occasionally it may take a little while before the certificate is configured, but don’t worry - the magic is happening in the background and very shortly your website will be secure.

How long does it take to configure the SSL Certificate?

It may take up to 24–48 hours before the SSL certificate is configured.

What if I bought my domain through another company? Can I still get SSL?

Yes! The only difference in this case is that you’ll need to make sure the domain name hosted by a third-party is pointed to the correct IP address. Once you’ve pointed your domain name, you simply need to publish your website. Learn more about setting up an external domain.
