What is the Square Affiliate Programme and how does it work?

The Affiliate Programme is a service that allows participating websites to earn commission on activations and select sales referred to Square using specially tracked links. We provide you with custom links and banners that you can post on your website. Then when a visitor you've referred to us converts, we'll keep track and give you a commission on the event.

Is my website eligible for the Affiliate Programme?

We accept almost all types of websites that are relevant to our products and do not contain objectionable or offensive materials. Please be aware that Square prohibits use of its payments services for select industries. Refer to Section 6 of the Square Seller Agreement for a complete list of Prohibited Industries. We welcome all applications but reserve the right to refuse membership or revoke a membership at any time at our sole discretion.

Are there any fees?

There are no fees associated with the Square Affiliate Programme. It is completely free to participate.

Can I become an affiliate if I live outside Australia?

Yes. We accept affiliates from anywhere in the world, as long as the network supports your country of residence. Please keep in mind that outside Australia, all commission payments will be made in U.S. dollars.

If I have multiple websites, do I need to apply separately for each?

No. You should apply once, list all your websites on your application, and advertise Square on any of them once you are approved.

What is your commission rate?

We pay a $25 CPA on net-new account activations online with bonus potential when and if activations make select hardware purchases and start taking payments.

Is there a minimum annual threshold?

There is no minimum sales level required to remain in the programme, but you will not receive a commission cheque until you earn $50 in commission.

Will you provide extra support for high-traffic websites?

Yes. Contact us—we’re always happy to help you with your affiliate efforts.

Can I use images from Square on my websites?

All of the content on the Square website is protected by copyright. You may only use images that have been provided for affiliate use within the network portal. If you have a special circumstance that requires the use of any photos, product images or content not included in the network portal, please contact us for written approval prior to the content's use. In some instances, custom creative may be available upon request.

Commissions, Account Info and Reporting

How does the affiliate programme know when I should receive credit for an order?

Performance Horizon tracks a cookie that is automatically applied to the computer of a person who clicks a banner or text link that has your account ID number embedded within it. Each banner or link that you create is specifically tagged with your Performance Horizon ID number, letting us know that you deserve commission on the activations/sales you send our way. You can access all of these banners and links by logging in to your Performance Horizon Account and choosing from any of the banners or simple text links available.

When and how do I get paid?

Performance Horizon will pay your monthly commission by either cheque or direct deposit around the 15th of the following month. Your account needs to have a balance of $50 or more before the end of the month in order to receive a payment. Otherwise, it will continue to roll forward into the next month until the $50 minimum is reached and we can issue a payment.

What is your return days or cookie policy?

If a visitor comes to our website from your website but doesn't convert on that visit, you can still earn commission on sales from that customer if they return and activate within 45 days. This works even if they navigate directly to the website on a return visit as long as they haven't deleted their cookies.

Do I earn commission credits if someone clicks a product on my site and then buys a different product?

Select events and product purchases are eligible for commission currently. This is subject to change over time. Please get in touch with the dedicated programme manager for further detail on current billable events.

How do product returns and account deactivations affect my commission?

Transactions and sales will remain as “pending” until the 15th of the following month to allow us to review and either approve or reject based on the validity of the account activation and/or hardware sale. Reasons for rejected transactions/sales can include but are not limited to: customers returning a product for a refund, invalid account information at sign-up, duplicate tracking, fraudulent sign-ups and/or activations, activations that violate Square’s Seller Agreement, or if credit card charges are reversed due to a dispute or credit card fraud.
