This one-hour consultation with Julia (see her bio below) focuses on your book-marketing needs, wherever you are in the publishing process. You'll cover:
1. The basics and best practices of book marketing.
2. Specific trends in your genre.
3. Marketing brainstorming for your book.
4. Guidance on how to develop a marketing plan and budget.
This session works best for authors who are planning to launch their book within 12 months, but can also be useful for authors trying to rejuvenate lagging book sales. Those booking a "Book Marketing Consultation" will be asked to fill out a brief questionnaire about their book and return it 48 hours in advance. The questionnaire is not required, but will allow us to customize the session to meet your needs.
Book Product Page Optimization Consultation
This one-hour consultation with Shilah (see her bio below) focuses on optimizing your book's product page at the major online retailers for maximum sales. In this session, you'll:
1. Review key elements on your current or planned book product page.
2. Discuss title, subtitle, series title (if applicable), cover design, editorial and reader reviews, pricing, "look inside" feature, synopsis and categories.
3. Make sure you're utilizing all of Amazon's marketing features.
This session is designed for new authors getting ready to launch their book as well as authors who want to optimize sales of a book that is currently for sale. Those booking an "Amazon Product Page Optimization" consultation will be asked to fill out a brief questionnaire about their book and return it 48 hours in advance. The questionnaire is not required, but will allow us to customize the session to meet your needs.
Book Positioning/Audience Research Consultation
This is a deep dive into where your book "fits" in today's marketplace. It's a crucial step in the publishing process that many authors skip, and regret later when sales lag. In this one-hour session with Kathy (see bio below), you'll will:
1. Discuss potential genres and categories that will give your book maximum exposure.
2. Examine reader expectations in select genre.
3. Explore comparable titles (other titles your audience is reading now).
4. Brainstorm on ways to reach reviewers.
This session is designed for authors who are still writing their book and plan to launch in the next 12 months. The session can also be useful for authors trying to reposition a book that isn't meeting sales expectations. After a book and digital marketing career at iVillage, Random House, Inc. and Abrams, Julia joined Barnes & Noble’s NOOK digital division to lead marketing and publisher relations for its industry-disrupting self-publishing platform. Julia has been featured in dozens of panels, webinars and interviews on book and content marketing, and has been a guest lecturer on book marketing at NYU’s publishing program. Julia went on to run the partner marketing program for BN.com and to lead ad sales for Barnes & Noble.com and SparkNotes.
Kathy is a writer and editor with more than twenty-five years of experience in the media and publishing industries. She has worked for such iconic editorial brands as CBS and Forbes, Inc, where she reported directly to Tim Forbes. Kathy has become a sought-after expert on the topic of independent publishing and disruption in the publishing industry. She has spoken at Book Expo America, Women in Media, GrubSteet, PubSmart, AuthorYOU, and IndieRecon, among others.
Shilah is a graduate of the University of South Carolina where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in English. She spends her days at Bublish working with authors and optimizing their product pages and metadata. She’s an aspiring author who hopes to complete her first manuscript by 2019.
